Pepperidge Farm names cookies after SWFL cities ☘ Hoey Team ☘ eXp Realty
Dated: July 11 2019
Pepperidge Farm cookies are a grocery store staple, from Milanos to Chessmen to Pirouettes. But some of these cookies have namesakes that are a little closer to home.
The Sanibel Snickerdoodle, Captiva Dark Chocolate and Naples Citrus are all cookies put out by the popular baked goods company as part of its Distinctive and American Collections. These cookies are "an opportunity to celebrate popular domestic holiday destinations that cookie lovers have enjoyed for destinations," according to Pepperidge Farm.
The Sanibel and Captiva are both soft cookies, the former with a dark chocolate cookie and dark chocolate chunks, while the latter is a classic snickerdoodle with a light cinnamon coating.
The Naples cookie is a crisp orange wafer half-dipped in dark chocolate.
Each cookie is designed to invoke flavorful memories from each of these places. So, the Naples cookie is decadent, coated in dark chocolate and highlighted by notes of citrus, two ingredients that Pepperidge Farm noticed are prevalent in popular desserts in the city.
Reporters from the newsroom at the Naples Daily News tried the cookies to see how they live up to their city namesakes. For the most part, Naples was the cookie they felt matched its city the best, but Sanibel was the cookie they enjoyed the most.
Pepperidge Farms founder Margaret Rudkin began the tradition of naming cookies after cities during her trip through Europe aboard the Queen Mary. The trip resulted in the European Collection, which includes fan-favorite cookies like Brussels, Bordeaux, Geneva and Milano.
The Pepperidge Farm team continues that tradition with its American collection which includes destinations like Nantucket, Montauk, Captiva, Naples and Sanibel.
